Rack End/Axial Joint (Set) - 51220-S10-003
A tie rod or tie bar is a slender structural unit used as a tie and capable of carrying tensile loads only. It is any rod or bar-shaped structural member designed to prevent the separation of two parts, as in a vehicle.
To ensure and adequate overlap between ball socket and housing collar, ball diameters>23mm must be provided. This configuration allows maximum axial tension forces of 25Kn. In practice, three different types of steering rack ends design are used:
- Casing with internal thread for bolting onto the steering tie rod, and ball stud pin with external thread to bolt into the steering rack.
- Casing with threaded stud pin for bolting into the steering rack, and extruded ball at the rack ends.
- Casing with threaded bore for bolting onto the steering rack, and extruded ball at the car rack ends.

Signs and symptoms when defective | When your tie rods go bad, the symptom you're most likely to experience first is a vibration or shaking sensation in your steering wheel. You may also hear associated clunking and rattling noises, especially when turning the vehicle at low speeds. These sounds are caused by tie rods that are starting to wear out. |
