Tie Rod End (Front) - 53540-SH3-003
A tie rod or tie bar is a slender structural unit used as a tie and capable of carrying tensile loads only. It is any rod or bar-shaped structural member designed to prevent the separation of two parts, as in a vehicle.
Tie rods are an essential part of your vehicle's steering system. Tie rods connect the steering gear (or rack and pinion gear) to the wheel using a length of rod with a ball-in-socket on one end. The ball-in-socket mechanism allows the wheels to move up and down and side to side in a controlled movement.
A tie rod connects to both of your front wheels and enables steering. When they're in good shape, they give you smooth, responsive steering. Tie rods have two basic parts: the inner tie rod and the outer tie rod or the tie rod end.

Signs and symptoms when defective | When your tie rods go bad, the symptom you're most likely to experience first is a vibration or shaking sensation in your steering wheel. You may also hear associated clunking and rattling noises, especially when turning the vehicle at low speeds. These sounds are caused by tie rods that are starting to wear out. |
